Famous for its heavy rainfall and stunning natural attractions, including the Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest plunge waterfalls in India. Meghalaya is home to living root bridges, a unique form of architecture created by guiding tree roots across rivers and streams. Meghalaya is predominantly inhabited by various indigenous communities, including the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia tribes. The state celebrates various festivals and cultural events, such as Nongkrem Dance, Behdienkhlam, and Wangala Festival, which showcase traditional dance, music, and rituals. Meghalaya’s lush landscapes, unique cultural heritage, and natural wonders make it a captivating destination for travelers seeking a blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences in the northeastern part of India.
Itinerary
Your Pathway to Unforgettable Experiences
Day 1: Guwahati – Kaziranga (195 kms, 4 hours)
Start the journey with your arrival at the Guwahati station/airport, get greeted and straight away get transferred to Kamakhya Temple. After Devoting some quality time in the temple we will depart for Kaziranga which is a 4-5 hours journey from Guwahati. After arrival we will check in the hotel and retire for the night.
Day 2: Kaziranga National Park
- Early morning we will take you for an exciting elephant safari. Feel the gratifying pleasure in an early morning elephant safari across the Central/Western range of the National Park at 5:30 A.M or 6:30 A.M. Meet the pride of India, the great Asian one-horned Rhinos with wild Buffalo, Tiger, Elephant, variety of Deer, Python and variety of migratory birds, water birds, predators, scavengers and game birds etc. Then we will go for a local sightseeing including renowned lush green tea gardens of Assam. After lunch, we will go for jeep safari at the Central/Western range of the national park for another dose of adventure into the jungle. In the evening visit the Orchid park where you can enjoy the local folk dance called “BIHU”. Finally, drop you at your hotel. (Note: Elephant Safari is subject to availability)
Day 3: Kaziranga – Shillong (271 kms, 7 hrs)
Early morning after breakfast we head for Shillong, It takes around 7-8 hours to reach this gorgeous hill station. On the way, drop by the Borapani Lake in the state of Meghalaya, also known as the Umiam lake, it is beautifully surrounded by Sylvan hills.
Day 4: Shillong – Cherrapunji (60 kms, 2 hrs)
- After breakfast, set off for Cherrapunji, well known for receiving one of the highest rainfall in the world. Cherrapunjee is locally known as Sohra and is situated at a distance of 56 kms from Shillong. On the way we will be visiting the Shillong peak, located in the upper Shillong from where one can see the beauty of Shillong city under the clouds giving a perfect picturesque view of the city. After a while we head to the Elephanta falls, the water of this three steps falls comes down in flows from different levels over the fern-covered rocks and falls into the canyon down below. Then visit the Mawkdok Valley which is a very prominent sightseeing for tourists. Then on the way we visit the Nohsngithiang falls (Seven sisters falls) which is known to be the symbol of the Unity of the Seven States of North East India. Later than we visit the Mawsmai cave, a major crowd puller that leaves tourists spellbound. After trekking in the majestic cave we move for Eco Park, which hosts several hybrid and indigenous orchids. It also offers a breathtaking view of distant Sylhet Plains of neighboring Bangladesh.
Day 5: Cherrapunji – Mawlynnong - Dawki (85 Kms, 3 hrs)
Mawlynnong/Mawlynnong Village located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, also referred as ‘God’s own garden’ has won the acclaim of being the cleanest village in Asia in 2003. Visit the Living Root Bridge in the nearby village of Rawai. The village also offers a sight of natural balancing rock, a strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. From Mawlynnong one can see the Indo-Bangladesh Border. After some time we travel for Dawki in the East Jaintia Hills, on arrival is the Umngot River where the water is crystal clear and is said to be one of the clearest river in India. The journey from Mawlynnong to Dawki is thrilling and scenic as we pass through lush green valleys and waterfalls peddling down from every corner of the hills. We will take a boat ride which is the most astonishing thing to do in Dawki.
Day 6: Shillong sightseeing – Guwahati (90 Kms, 3 hrs)
In the morning after the breakfast we will visit the Lady Hydri Park, this place gives you a combination of Park – Zoo – Botanical Garden. After that our journey comes to one of the most romantic place in Shilong, the Ward’s Lake, located in the heart of the city which was built by the British councils and is a prominent hang-out place in Meghalaya. Then we will visit the Don Bosco Museum where one can see the historical monuments of the ancient Meghalaya culture. After that you will be transferred guwahati where on arrival visit the Alfresco Cruise ride, which will take you to the heart of the Brahmaputra River.
Day 7: Guwahati Departure
After breakfast we will leave for Guwahati where we will visit the Umananda Temple (World’s Smallest River Island) which is situated in the heart of the Brahmaputra River. Then our Meghalaya Tour comes to an end and drop you to the Airport/ Railway Station for onward journey.
