Adjacent to this complex is the Silver Pagoda, also known as the Emerald Buddha Temple, which houses a remarkable collection of Buddha statues adorned with gold, diamonds, gemstones, and silver.
Our journey continues as we make a stop at the Independence Monument and delve into an exploration of the National Museum, a splendid example of Khmer architectural excellence. Our journey will then lead us to Prasat Kravan, originally constructed by nobles rather than a reigning monarch. We’ll proceed to Banteay Kdei, a temple crafted in sandstone, which, despite significant deterioration, still boasts some beautifully preserved lintels and pediments. We’ll make a stop at Srah Srang, a regal pool that served as the King’s daily bathing pond, where he shared moments with his many concubines. Next is Ta Keo, a five-tiered pyramid dedicated to Shiva, and Thommanon, a small and charming temple in excellent condition, built concurrently with Angkor Wat. Chau Say Tevoda, dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, will also be part of our afternoon itinerary.
